Fire managers at Carson National Forest continue to monitor several situations. Ignition was set to begin yesterday on the Red mesa Prescribed Burn on the Tres Piedras Ranger District. Fire managers successfully completed 275 acres of the Red Mesa prescribed burn in October . As conditions allow, the District will continue with 350 more acres of broadcast burning. This project is located within the Red Mesa area of the Tusas Ridge southwest of Tres Piedras and west of NM Highway 285. Smoke will be visible from Taos and surrounding communities, and will be highly visible from highways 285 and 64 due to the proximity of the project. Fire officials say there has been very little activity on the midnight fire on the Questa Ranger District. The fire is expected to continue to burn itself out with the colder temperatures and moisture predicted for this weekend. And, finally, fire officials say last week the francisco prescribed burn on the camino real range district, was completed at approximately 580 acres.
