A group of northern New Mexico ranchers say Hispanics are being mistreated by the U.S. Forest Service. Carlos Salazar, president of the Northern New Mexico Stockman's Association, sent a letter to the White House yesterday explaining that ranchers and farmers in the area have been loyal Democrats in the past but are "bailing out" on the Obama administration because of policies that are having negative economic effects on those who depend on the state's forests for their livelihoods. This comes a day after ranchers and Rio Arriba county said the were suing the Forest Service over a reduction in grazing opportunities on two allotments in the Carson National Forest - claiming there's an institutional bias against Hispanics within the agency.
