The Harwood Museum of Art of the University of New Mexico has announced a major gift from the Mandelman-Ribak Foundation in Taos. The gift makes possible the addition of a new gallery wing and a permanent endowment to fund care, exhibition, and scholarship. The world’s largest collection of works by Beatrice Mandelman and Louis Ribak is also part of the gift.
Mandelman and Ribak came to Taos in 1944 and laid the groundwork for attracting artists, known as “The Taos Moderns.” The Harwood, which is currently undergoing reconstruction, will dedicate the new gallery wing at a grand re-opening later this year.
